Ghost by Jason Reynolds

5.0

I love Jason Reynold's books. He has his finger on the pulse of our black youth, who are overlooked and invisible. His stories are breathtaking and his writing style pulls you in from the first sentence and never lets you go.

This story of Castle Cranshaw, otherwise known as Ghost, was so good I read it in one sitting. Ghost is running from his own demons and, ironically runs his way right onto a track team where he learns to run TO what he wants instead of running away from his past.

I love how his teammates all have their own burdens to carry and how they use running, and the fellowship of their track team, to shoulder the burdens together. Beautiful story that had me laughing and crying.

I found out that there are three other books in this track series: Patina, Sunny, and Lu. I'm heading out to the library later today to get them all!
