Bad Medicine by Christopher Twin
3.5
Short graphic novel where Cree teens gather around a campfire and tell each other scary stories, each trying to one-up the last. The stories aren't just trips through Cree monsters and myths, but touch on issues the kids are facing in their daily lives, including domestic violence, missing and murdered women, and land rights.
In terms of "was it effective horror?" I'd lean towards "no," possibly because the art style just didn't do it for me like a good horror comic could (though the art was lovely). It does hit creepy pretty well, and I liked the stories themselves. The last one is an absolute gut punch, which I appreciate.
