Hilst’s prose is so hypnotic I nearly fell asleep twice reading this novella.

I think this is a little too avante-garde for me. I have no idea what I just read or what was happening. I do appreciate the obvious care that went into the translation, but ultimately I think the translator’s introduction was my favourite part of this book.
