Disobedience by Naomi Alderman

5.0

I recently saw the movie (it’ll take something drastic to knock it off my top 10 for 2018) and didn’t know it was based on a book, especially not a book by Naomi Alderman. I read The Power recently and loved every page of it, so I was eager to get to this.

There’s no denying power of Alderman’s prose. She is a writer of considerable talent, potentially one of the best working today. Disobedience is a stunning, beautiful work. There’s never a dull moment in its pages, and its story unravels with undeniable precision. It alternates deftly between heartbreaking and uplifting, dramatic and funny. Its characters are wonderfully realized and depicted and easy to love. A truly remarkable work.
