I am a HUGE fan of the Clara Young books after having read some of the others later in the series (I read out of order) and I wanted to go back to the beginning and read all the books in order! Seeing how Clara got her start investigating mysteries as a high school senior was so great and I really loved this mystery! It had a great YA voice with realistic conversations between Clara and her sister and friends, and also a great mystery to solve. 

 

Clara and her family move to a new town during her last semester of high school when her dad gets a new job as sheriff. She moves with her sister Jasmine, older brother Rodney (who is a detective) and mother. I liked how the family is portrayed as very normal and close. They have their squabbles but they love each other. Very typical family that is pleasant to read about. Clara immediately makes some new friends at school (liked the friend group) and also begins hearing whispers about a murder that occurred the year before in one of the bathroom stalls. I thought the way the mystery was laid out worked really well with a slow reveal of information. We find out it had something to do with a former cheerleader and that there may have been pieces to the investigation that were missed. The pieces of the mystery worked really well together with some good twists and the end had me on the edge of my seat! 5/5 stars.
