The book reads like a confession in which Jack tells the readers what happened during the casino’s infiltration. I enjoyed Jack breaking the fourth wall and addressing the readers; it was even better because I listened to the audiobook. He’s funny, and I like that he reflected on his behaviour and called himself out. I’ve never been to Las Vegas, but the atmosphere and vibes seemed set up well. The casual ace representation was refreshing.
For a book advertised as a heist, it was light on the constitutive elements. Their plans were straightforward and involved a lot of luck, and the stakes didn’t seem that high. I enjoyed the found family aspect, but, except for Jack, most characters felt a little flat and had few characteristics to differentiate them from the others. The plot twist was not immediately predictable, but it wasn’t surprising either, and the villain felt cartoonish. I still had a nice time with the audiobook; the narrator did really well!
