5 ⭐️ book rec - Annie Hartnett's Unlikely Animals is wonderful,  and deserves a place not just on your TBR but at the very top.

I went into this blind and I'm glad I did so I'm not going to share too much in the way of details.  The narrative setting is delightfully quirky - magically quirky - and full of heart.

Funny,  emotional, loving, and very gently sarcastic. As a fairly short book,  it deals with some fairly heavy issues - but with a breathtakingly light  and uplifting touch.

I found some similarities in the tone to Fredrick Backman. I suspect this would appeal strongly to fans of Anxious People and A Man Called Ove.

This is a story about family, the decisions and the mistakes we make because we are alive,  and an in between place between living and remembering.

Just wonderful.
