The People We Keep by Allison Larkin

I love when I stumble upon a book that hadn't been on my radar and end up falling hard for it. Enter The People We Keep. I have Book of the Month to thank for bringing this gem to my attention. At once heartbreaking and heart-warming, this was a read that truly did give me all the feels. And let's not forget the beautiful prose. The writer in me has always been such a sucker for gorgeous writing, and I found it here; and yet it managed to stride that fine balance between being beautiful and trying too hard. It felt effortless. The characters in this book had such depth and were really brought to life through the narrative. One thing that continually popped into my head as I read her story was, "Everyone should have people in their lives like the this group of loved ones she's 'collected' along the way." It was so touching. Lastly, I have to mention how much I enjoyed the moving setting. With her being on the road for her livelihood, I got to experience different locations as a reader, and most of them evoked a sense of coziness and hygge. The People We Keep was a gem, and I'm so glad I read it.
