The Unhoneymooners by Christina Lauren
5.0
⠀⠀✧ • ° . ◦ *⠀┊ five stars.
⠀hate to love? fake dating— faKE MARRIAGE? please bury me with this because i am: in love with this and with them. i also finished this in one sitting if that tells y’all anything.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀” i get it. as much as i hate
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ him... i’m starting to like us. “
⠀things i really enjoyed:
❥ ┊the premise.
⠀⠀⠀⠀wbk that hate to love & fake dating tropes are amazing by themselves. they’re even better when they’re combined. both tropes where executed so well and pretty flawlessly. as i will say to anyone who will listen to me: it’s god tier.
❥ ┊the cast.
⠀⠀⠀⠀the characters were beyond enjoyable. ethan aka my new book boyfriend is amazing and olive aka my new book girlfriend is equally amazing. they’re both so... real. even the side characters had their own personalities. i would kill for a family like the one presented in the book.
❥ ┊the humor.
⠀⠀⠀⠀i really appreciate when authors make you laugh out loud and not exert a harsher puff of air. i laughed several times——to the point where my company thought i was crazy.
❥ ┊the romance.
⠀⠀⠀⠀yeah, i’m a little bias since the romance was based on my two favorite tropes..... but it was Just So Good. i can’t explain how much i love ethan and olive. with every snide remark, with every glance, i wanted more. these characters worked so well together you started rooting for them in the beginning.
❥ ┊the plot.
⠀⠀⠀⠀for a while, i didn’t think this book had a plot beyond the honeymoon vacation but boyyyyy am i glad it did. i’m not gonna lie, i was a little unsure at first because i loved the romance being front and center. with how the remainder of the novel was written, i couldn’t be happier that there was more than just the trip to maui. the extension allowed for more character development as well as developments (and even regressions) in the relationships.
⠀playlist:
⠀⠀❥ while reading this, a few songs came on shuffle & i think they are a really good fit for this story.
⠀⠀⠀⠀heaven in hiding by halsey
⠀⠀⠀⠀waste the night by 5 seconds of summer
⠀⠀⠀⠀glimmer by marianas trench
⠀⠀⠀⠀all or nothing by theory of a deadman
⠀⠀⠀⠀touch it by ariana grande
⠀⠀⠀⠀my heart i surrender by i prevail
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀overall, this is officially my favorite book of 2019. this. this right here. it was god tier. i fell in love with this relationship and hurt with every real fight. i don’t think i will stop talking about this for a very long time. if you want a light hearted romance that will have you swooning, pleASE pick this up.
