Desires of the Dead by Kimberly Derting
4.0
Violet is probably the luckiest fictional character I've read about; I mean somehow the dead always find her. What more could a girl ask for? Oh yeah, being dragged into cases of the dead people she finds AND continually being wanted dead by the killers who killed the dead people she found. What a life... (Did you catch my sarcasm there?)
I thought the plot of this story was pretty good. Nothing too amazing, but it kept me entertained. There were definitely some predictable parts, but Kimberly Derting makes up for that in the pace of the book. It was set at a steady pace and kept me interested until the end. I've come to really love her writing because it flows incredibly well.
As for the characters... Violet was still your average teenage girl that can sense the dead, but Jay was amazing. His role in the book was wonderful and I've grown to really love him. Jay was so phenomenally swoon-worthy and I can't wait to see more of him in future books! Maybe even a novella or book in his point of view...
I have on issue with this book though. I didn't feel very "on the edge of my seat" during the times I should have. It was very disappointing because I love Kimberly Derting's writing and these events fell flat for me.
Overall I liked Desires of the Dead, but I didn't love it.
