Waiting for Tom Hanks by Kerry Winfrey

I thought this was sweet. There’s a cute undertone of how rom coms can be the most beautiful view of the world, but also how they can make you over-romanticize your life (and how that affects your ability to find a man).

In the end, it had a similar vibe to Better Than the Movies by Lynn Painter, but, because it was about two 27/28 year olds instead of teenagers, the plot seemed a little flat and too low stakes/underdeveloped for two people who are supposed to be in love and are going to have to face the realities of living in different places and actually getting together.

I think this book also suffered from some issues with the overall development of the plot. Annie was so laser-focused on “finding her Tom Hanks” that she was blind to any real possibilities for love. And Drew had these kinda concerning aspects to his personality at the beginning that are only slightly explained. And then, they get together in like one day and then there’s so little development of their “relationship” before it blows up in their faces. It just felt rushed. In many ways.

P.S. This is a closed door romance. So if that’s a deal breaker for you, you have been warned.
