The Hobbit: A BBC Full-Cast Radio Drama by J.R.R. Tolkien
Did not finish book. Stopped at 50%.
The problem I had is the way it sounds, so it might not be an issue for you. I can be weirdly intense about sounds (one of my top reasons for not have children is the appalling noises they make). The sound effects are a product of the time so can be forgiven. However, the music, though possibly an accurate rendition of the tunes of the middle ages, is grating and chronic. I have never found myself so frequently thinking "Please, please don't let the dwarves burst into song. Have mercy." Some of the voice modifications - the hawks, the spiders - made me want to shove things into my ears in the hopes of bursting my drums. There was also quite a bit of background noise happening throughout which was on much the same volume as the foreground noise.
This, despite the incredible voice acting, was an offense to my ears.
