I enjoyed this novella! The audiobook was engaging though it felt over-acted sometimes. The characters were interesting, especially Creeper and Ann-Marie with whom we spend the most time. I liked the integration of the divinities, it makes me want to read books focused on African mythology. The world was carefully crafted and had interesting lore. New Orleans’ atmosphere was depicted well. You could feel the city bustling at the approach of Mardi-gras when the story takes place. It’s a melting pot, where even enemies respect the state’s neutrality.

Where the book loses me a little bit, is the plot. I was expecting an intricate plot with a few twists, but it was pretty straightforward and nothing crazy happened.

If you want a fast-paced, short read with steampunk elements this is perfect.
