Circe by Madeline Miller
5.0
Madeline Miller, you really outdid yourself this time.
I haven't felt this love for a Greek mythological retelling since Elektra by Jennifer Saint (another phenomenal book, by the way). Miller's particular combination of beautiful writing and masterful storytelling, combined with her phenomenal main character, is something to behold.
Perhaps I am biased. I do love a female main character who is written as more than just a Mary Sue, but Circe is just perfectly up my alley. Her love for her son, for her pets; her rejection of her own divinity; her treatment of those who do her and her loved ones wrong... Circe is a force to be reckoned with, and I adore her.
As much as I love audiobooks, I think this is one of those stories that really takes on a whole new life when it is read on a page rather than listened to. I would highly recommend this for anyone who enjoys mythology and multidimensional women. What an epic retelling. I'm still reeling from the ending, processing everything I just read, but one thing is for certain: Circe has earned a solid 5/5 stars from me.
