Too Easy by Jamie Bennett
5.0
Too Easy Review
Couple: Blake & Ryan Whittaker
Author: Jamie Bennett
Tropes: Forbidden romance. Friends-2-Lovers. Opposites attract. Wrong side of the tracks romance. Mental health spotlight.
Review: This was my first book by this author and Jamie Bennett blew it out of the park. The couple could not be more different in stereotypes, personalities or attributes.
Blake is a shy and introverted young woman who struggles with depression, anxiety and PTSD from watching her boyfriend netted mugged and killed on a road trip.
Ryan Whittaker is the town playboy and the heir to the fortune of his family. He is outgoing and loud and probably the last person who Blake expected to become friends with.
This book highlights the struggles people go through when dealing with mental health and loss. It does it in a tactful fashion without it being your face. The relationship between the couple is honest and witty. I enjoyed how they gravitated towards each other and built one another up. I also LOVED how they both made each other stronger. The friendship that developed between them was built on a strong foundation and blossomed throughout the book.
Blake has to overcome the reputation the Ryan has, while at the same time learning to be more active in her life rather that an observer. The struggles of her depression and periodic catatonic states is something that you normally do not see in books and is something that is really important to be aware of. The way Jamie Bennett incorporated the awareness and Ryan’s need to make sure Blake was okay was inspirational and beautiful. The love he had for her was also something great to read, since he was never overtly romanticized in the book.
This couple was a love story that I will find myself reading again and again.
Rating: 9/10. Ryan was there for Blake and was so caring and watchful that it really brought to light how mental health can affect a person and their relationships.
