The Poisonwood Bible by Barbara Kingsolver

4.0

This book was a little slow to get going but overall it was a great book. The last chapter was so beautifully written.

"You are afraid you might forget, but you never will. You will forgive and remember. Think of the vine that curls from the small square plot that was once my heart. That is the only marker you need. Move on. Walk forward into the light." - The Eyes in the Trees

"Oh, and the camel. Was it a camel that could pass through the eye of the needle more easily than a rich man? Or a coarse piece of yarn? The Hebrew words are the same, but which one did they mean? If it's a camel, the rich man might as well not even try. But if it's the yarn, he might well succeed with a lot of effort, you see? When I want to take God at his word exactly, I take a peep out the window at His creation. Because that, daring, He makes fresh for us every day, without a lot of dubious middle managers." - Brother Fowles

"God doesn't need to punish us. He just grants us a long enough life to punish ourselves." - Leah

"The arrogance of the able-bodied is staggering. Yes, maybe we'd like to be able to get places quickly, and carry things in both hands, but only because we have to keep up with the rest of you, or get The Verse. We would rather be just like us, and have that be all right." - Adah

"Poor Africa. No other continent has endured such an unspeakably bizarre combination of foreign thievery and foreign goodwill." -Leah
