A look at daily life in pre-Norman Britain via vocabulary, which is a really cool way to lay out a book. It mostly managed to avoid getting too "list of things" by laying out how each topic was approached, and talking about the points of view of the sources (like the monk who was pretty sure every Norse month name meant "time of blood sacrifice"), and how the words fit in with cultural context.

I retained very little, but enjoyed reading it, and may read it again. There's a PDF with all the words, too, which is nice for an audiobook.
