Ashley Poston writes my favorite magical realism romance novels, and “A Novel Love Story” did not disappoint! The “Seven Year Slip” is still my favorite though :) This book details every reader’s dream as Elsy enters the incomplete story of her favorite book series after the author dies. I think this book functions better as a contemporary fiction with a romance subplot, but it is marketed as a romance. I wanted more tension building in the exposition of Elsy and Anders’ romance, but the end fully made up for all of that. I loved the setting of Eloraton, and I wish the Quixotic Falls series was real. Most importantly, this novel drives home the value of romance and of readers, and I love it for that.
