When I kept reading that the ending is disappointing because we don’t get answers, I assumed they meant the answer to what the Tox is/how it started/etc. No they meant the book literally ends on a major cliffhanger with zero indication of how the main characters will possibly survive. So frustrating. I guess we’re supposed to be happy about the fact that they escaped at all? And revel in the filth that is human nature at its lowest while also appreciating that love can be a guiding force of nature.
All that said, the writing itself was beautiful and the characters were so well-written. The setting was spooky. BIG Annihilation vibes from this, for obvious reasons.
