The Things We Don't See by Savannah Brown

Did not finish book.
see i really wanted to like this, because ive read savannah brown‘s poetry and adored it. unfortunately the book just fell flat for me.
i struggled with the characterisation of the protagonist as well as the execution of the plot. while some passages of the book were written nicely, it moreso felt like she was dropping poetic passages/fancy words and descriptors into an otherwise lacklustre narrative.
especially as someone who‘s read brown’s poetry and interacted with her on social media, the usage of words she‘d previously used (i.e. as an escapril promt) really gave the impression that she latched onto certain phrases to make the writing more elaborate. it just didn‘t work for me, when the rest of the book wasn‘t written in a lyrical manner in the slightest, so whenever i got to the passages that made use of more flowery language, it stood out like a sore thumb.
