The Worm and His Kings by Hailey Piper

4.0

This book is for a certain kind of reader. Cosmic horror isn't for everyone. But the resilience of a trans woman in the face of a city, a world, a universe that stands against her? That's the story we all need. This book was bizarre and not at all what I was expecting, as Monique's endless depths unfold to fill multitudes. We see betrayal and healing and reaching out, rejection, determination, a dogged quest for survival. We also see a kind heart being taken advantage of, being ruined.

Oh and a cult and some magical weird shit. Because this book got weird. Why do I stumble on so many "surprise, there's a cult" books?

Honestly, I'd read this again and again for Monique.
