A Dowry of Blood by S.T. Gibson

5.0

"I wouldn't realise until later that you were irritable precisely because I was in bloom, because there were suddenly so many sources of joy in my life apart from your presence.”

Constanta is 'saved' from near death by a mysterious stranger. In a moment she loses her identity; becoming the vampire wife to Count Dracula. At first she believes they are happy, until his behaviour takes a dark turn, trapping her and two others in a gilded cage. She writes this as letters to him... after they've murdered him.

Essentially this is a Dracula retelling from the perspective of one of his wives; poly pan vampires fighting and surviving domestic abuse. I've read it twice now and I adored it both times. The writing is luscious and character work beautiful. Saint Gibson has a fan for life in me!!
