A Torch Against the Night by Sabaa Tahir
5.0
OMG! I think I have found a new favorite series (definitely TOP 10)!
A Torch Against the Night was everything a sequel should be - new subplots, a furthering the main storyline, betrayal, and deceit. I have a definite ship now (Laia and Elias forever!), screw Keenan, aka the Nightbringer! That is one twist I didn't see coming.
I also loved the new subplots including the Emperor's order towards the Blood Shrike - having her kill Elias was a nice twist. In addition, Elias getting poisoned kept me on the edge of my seat the entire time!
I liked that the Commandment furthered the story on the Rise of the Empire and killing of Scholars.
The deceit was top notch - when I found out that Keenan was the Nightbringer . . . It blew my mind!
This is one of the best books I have ever read and so glad that Fairyloot made me pick it up.
