I enjoyed it more than I expected. It introduces a very fun concept of people travelling to a store, seemingly in an unknown realm, to buy dreams. It’s fun, whimsical, and touches on some daily life subjects pertaining to some customers that make this book very relatable.
Like I said during my updates, character depth is a little bit lacking, but it doesn’t hinder your enjoyment of the book because characters are just living in that realm and the author made sure their stories wouldn’t get in the way of the dream concept because the store itself is the main character.
I see people praising Penny for being relatable and cute, but for me, she was the most insert character I’ve ever seen BUT in a good way. She is curious, which allows us to learn more about the store with her. She asks questions we have in our mind regarding the store, and she is in awe of it as much as we are. I didn’t mind it at all, but that further confirms the characters, even the protagonist, are not the focus of the story in any way.
I also loved how we lived through job interviews, Christmas, year-end award shows (my favourite part probably because it’s been so long since I watched an award show, and it reminded me how fun they are), meeting with customers, customers’ dissatisfaction, … You get it, we pretty much live through mundane things made spectacular because of the uniqueness of the dream store but bringing with it a touch of realism. I highly recommend it if you want a fun little read to put you in a good mood, or if you feel dramatic, make life see through magical lenses again ;).
