After reading Final Offer last year, I knew I wanted to read Lauren Asher’s backlist and this book was pretty good for her debut.
This book follows Maya and Noah. Noah is an F1 racer and Maya has just graduated from university. After her brother, who is also an F1 racer and enemies with Noah, transfers to Noah’s team, Maya decides to tag along and go on tour with him. While her brother warns her to stay away, she can’t help by being drawn in by him.
This was okay. Let’s start with the positives first.
I really like Lauren Asher’s writing. I was drawn in by the beginning of this book and liked the characters from the start. For her debut, this book is pretty good.
I also really enjoyed the setting of this book. I loved watching them jet set around the world for F1 racing. Honestly that’s probably my favourite part. I’m excited to read the other books in this series.
What lacked for me was the development of the relationship. Overall, I did like Maya and Noah, and while pace wise, they did take a while to actually get together, the scenes to get you there just didn’t make me care for them that much. The development of their relationship felt lacking.
It’s also unfortunate that the big part in Noah’s character development takes place off page during a time jump. I wish we were able to see that and actually see him grow as a character rather than just feeling like the author flipped the switch to get her characters where she wanted.
Overall, this was just okay for me. I will be continuing on with the series but I just found this book a bit underwhelming.
