Undoubtedly one of the best books I have ever read. Chanel’s lyrical writing is captivating. Her story was so therapeutic for me, as I stayed up late into the early hours of the morning reading each night, trying to to feed my heart from the heaviness of the day. I believe everyone needs to read this book. Although it is from the perspective of a survivor, so many voices are recognized. The perspective of loved ones; parents, siblings, significant others, friends. And while reading this will help them process their own emotions, it can further help them to better understand the survivor in their life and the ones who exist outside of their world. Chanel made me laugh and she made me cry — both equally good for my heart. Her undeniable strength and honesty will continue to move mountains for survivors everywhere. This book must be added into curriculum. High school, I think. Chanel, thank you for your voice. Thank you for using your voice and helping us feel heard.
