This House, Once by Deborah Freedman
3.0
I like the piecing together of the house, bit by bit. I like how the kitten guides the reader through the "flashbacks" to the house materials' origin-states into the present-day home. Super nostalgic but visually very effective, the narrative returns full circle (verbally and visually) to the roots it establishes in its first illustration: a door that "was once an oak."
