I loved the fact that I was reading about a cast of loveable and diverse characters, it made me feel much more invested in the more emotional moments of the plot. The humour throughout was great. I thought the dialogue was well written for the target demographic and the narrative had good pacing throughout. I’m a sucker for an enemies to lovers trope and in this story it’s well executed.

There were definitely lots of callbacks to different versions of The Little Mermaid that most readers would be familiar with but I would have liked to see more diversions from the stories as we already know them, maybe some twists versus what you would expect. I would have liked for there to have been more content during the climax and ending as I enjoyed the concept but felt it was a little rushed which was a shame as I was enjoying it. If you’re looking for YA that’s going to appeal to the older side of the scale then I don’t believe this one’s for you.
