The Love Hypothesis by Ali Hazelwood
5.0
“Carry yourself with the confidence of a mediocre white man.”
I think I've just found one of my new favorite romance books. I'm always scared of reading really hyped books, especially by debut authors, because I always go in knowing I'll be let down somehow. Not in this case though, for [a:Ali Hazelwood|21098177|Ali Hazelwood|https://images.gr-assets.com/authors/1611084228p2/21098177.jpg] has outdone herself with this novel. The whole story was perfect, from start to finish, which made me read the whole thing in one sitting. The characters, the backstories, the plot... everything was right up my alley.
Olive was a very hardworking and determined female (who also majored in STEM, which was a big plus for me), while Adam was a very sweet and supportive man, despite his reputation of being an ass and his brooding personality (which instantly seemed to disappear around Olive). Even with the whole "fake-dating" idea, none of the events felt fake or forced. There was no toxicity within the relationship either, which made the whole story even better in my opinion.
“I'm starting to wonder if this is what being in love is. Being okay with ripping yourself to shreds, so the other person can stay whole.”
Their fake relationship starts off as a way to benefit both sides, with a specific date set on when to drop the whole facade and move on with their lives. As the days pass by and they spend more and more time together, Olive starts realizing that her feelings for Adam weren't all that fake after all. Torn between whether to admit the truth about her feelings to him or not, Olive finds herself coming up with more and more lies instead. But with her research around pancreatic cancer in jeopardy, and after revealing the whole truth to her friends, Olive must decide whether being with Adam is a risk she was willing to take.
Everything about this book made it harder for me to put it down. I even loved the side characters (Anh, Jeremy, Malcolm, Holden) and was rooting for their relationships from start to finish. I loved reading about a strong woman in STEM, especially with being in STEM myself. The book just gave me a lot of hope, in more ways than one. It also made me higher my standards in terms of romance, now wanting a brooding, over 6 feet tall male who calls me a smart-ass at least once a day, but we all expected that happening.
“I’m going to kill you,” he gritted out, little more than a growl. “If you say another word about the woman I love, if you look at her, if you even think about her - I’m going to fucking kill you.”
Ending with this quote that just made my heart melt and insides tingle. Read this book. You won't regret it.
