lord of the night had a magic mirror. it was his third eye. in it he could see all the earth. “the world is gray and joyless,” he said. “children do not laugh. women do not dance. men do not sing. the people spend their lives in darkness and silence. i will change all this,” declared lord of the night.

gorgeous book! spectacular use of color and shape, and i always love a good poetic tale cadence. nice context on the loss of aztec history and culture. always wild to think about how book burnings and suppression have such a long history as a key tool of subjugation — reminds you how important investing in literature is, as well how valuable oral storytelling is especially when physical writing is threatened. 

also, the musicians formerly of the sun are so so cute. puts them in my pocket in a non-incarceration form.
