A Dowry of Blood by S.T. Gibson

This book right here. Is an absolute masterpiece. I truly truly mean it. I love vampire stories, and I especially love GAY vampire stories, so this book was not only perfect in that regard, but pretty much perfect in every other way. The characters, the plot, the prose. Whew, let me get into the PROSE!
The prose is absolutely stunning, I mean: “I will render you as you really were, neither cast in pristine stained glass or unholy fire. I will make you into nothing more than a man, tender and brutal in equal measure, and perhaps in doing so I will justify myself to you. To my own haunted conscience.” AND “Your hunger for me was always more apparent under the cover of darkness, when you didn’t have to arrange your face into any semblance of civility.” AND ALSO “The people only call me cruel because it is easier to think of a woman as cruel than competent.” AND “Only violence felt like holiness to me anymore.” ALSO “Love is violence, my darling, it is a thunderstorm that tears apart your world. More often than not, love ends in tragedy, but we go on loving in the hopes that this time, it will be different. This time, the beloved will understand us. They will not try to flee from our embrace, or become discontent with us.”
I really like the way the book uses some typical vampire lore and how it kind of veers off the path in other cases, like how vampiric transformations take a really long time to be totally complete.
Also, this is literally the sexiest cover I have ever seen.
Yeah. Absolute masterpiece right here.
