“did you expect a goddess to be kind?”
i love Kingfishers writing style.
her word choices and phrases? she manages to write in a way that just works so perfectly for me!
even though this particular story itself shouldn’t have worked that well for me -not a huge fan of retellings of fairytales (i am not a fan of the originals either and quite honestly find it a bit strange that those are marketed as childrens stories since some horror books published today less gruesome!) but this worked for me.
maybe because it was a great mixture of slow quiet story but also had some characters that behaved on ways that were fitting for a fairy tale retelling.
“it never occurred to her to doubt her welcome. such was the gift of a child raised with love.”
i really enjoyed how this ended as well.
it still dienst quite reach a full 5 star love read for me. something was just not quite perfect for me -most likely the topic itself as i already mentioned- but i still really enjoyed this and it was a quick but memorable read!
very well done!
