The Tearsmith by Erin Doom

5.0

This book was really good and unlike anything I'd read before. I feel like for at least the first half of the book, the line between the tale of The Tearsmith and the Real World is toed so well that as the reader, you're wondering if there's magic involved - why is Rigel the way that he is? Does he have a power that allows him to manipulate? Are Nica's eyes an indication that she is The Tearsmith? I enjoyed the characters - Nica with her lovely, tender heart and Rigel's dark mystique and possessive ways. I loved Anna's maternal soul and how quickly she took Nica & Rigel under her wing. Norman, I couldn't relate to as much, but I know he loved Nica & Rigel as well, in his own way. The only character I couldn't decide if I loved or hated was Adeline to be honest and I feel like that whole convo at the end between Nica & Rigel re: Adeline could've been longer. However, that's the only thing I'll say could've been longer. The book felt too long in a lot of places. I think there were things that could've definitely been cut as they sort of felt like "fillers." Overall, though, I thoroughly enjoyed this book and I barely put it down once I picked it up, reading it between calls at work and from the moment I opened my eyes to the second I put it down to write this review.
