Children of Blood and Bone by Tomi Adeyemi
4.0
Hello before you read please note that these are my opinions and we might not agree or like the same things. But I always suggest reading the book yourself before you read.
Warning: Graphic gorey deaths or just violence, so many sad backstories, and maybe suicidal thoughts.
First, I loved the style of the writing and just I can literally breathe and sense everything going on in this story. It was just amazing. Personally I loved seeing through the povs and seeing how different characters viewed on the situation . That and the tons and TONS OF GOREY VIOLENCE IN THIS BOOK ALONE! I am a huge sucker for violence, action adventure and just dark and twisted tales. Want me to love a book GIVE ME SOME GORE AND I’M GOOD!
Second, the characters were actually interesting. At least they had different and unique. My favorite character has to be Amari all the way. Her character development was to die for.(*not literally *) I mean Zelie was not that bad. But Amari, just proved that you can overcome trauma and find strength within yourself and others .Even going against people’s assumptions of you. Which was something I can definitely relate to.Although I don’t hate Inan, he just had the worst father and sometimes that rubs off on you . In the end all of the characters were human and true and didn’t seem like carbon copies.
Third, the plot was interesting but not going to lie. There was some scenarios were it didn’t help the plot move forward at all . In my opinion. These scenes were of the intimate scenes between Inan and Zelie . Or scenes similar to that. They made me uncomfortable thus causing my rating to go down. I’m not a huge fan of romance so that really disgusts me more. But the pacing of the plot was actually good . It didn’t seem rushed and you truly got to know the characters on a deeper level so that all helped me well.
Four, I find it funny that in tons of fantasy the ruler is scared of a group who they said due these horrible crimes well the ruler themselves being a hypocrite. Doing the same thing except in certain circumstances worst then what the people did to them.
So, I definitely suggest, if you love action packed stories, with violence, self discovery, knowing where you truly stand, bravery, surprises at every angle, moments where all you want to do is cry. Then this book is for you.
