I will be sending Lyla Sage the bill for my therapy session that I need to have due to the person I am after reading this book.
Ever since I read Done & Dusted and was introduced to Teddy Andersen, I knew she was a force to be reckoned with, and getting to know her throughout this book was one of the best things that has happened this year. She’s (almost) fearless, fierce as hell, and everything I want to be when I grow up (read: I am a whole adult).
I relate to Teddy in so many ways, from always wanting to do something with my hands, to her love of second-hand clothing, to the fact that she was in this in-between stage in her life. It’s something I’m dealing with now, and it makes me itchy to think about it too much; most of my friends from college are married (or will be soon) or they have kids, and I’m just… not. I’m in this weird stage in between college and the real world, and to read about Teddy going through the motions just as I am was invigorating and amazing and emotional and I loved every minute of it.
Her worries about her father are also things that I feel near and dear to me, though mine are for both of my parents (forever thankful I can say that). They’re getting older, and realizing the vulnerability of that within this book is something I don’t think I want to think about too much or else I’ll cry again.
And Gus! Gus wanting nothing more than to make sure his little girl is cared for and not negatively influenced by Teddy was so fun to read, and I loved seeing their dynamic and relationship evolve and develop over the course of the book. From being first introduced to them to the epilogue, they are my favorite couple from RBR, and I will forever hope to have a relationship as strong as theirs. <3
