I finished this book in a day I loved it so much. It pretty much embodies dark academia. The concept of the school is so unique and just crazily clever, and all the characters are very well-written. The main character, El, is rude, sarcastic, and honestly just a refreshing point of view. Sometimes it's nice to get the perspective of someone who is genuinely an asshole (even if she develops later on). It also combines some great tropes such as fake dating and enemies-to-lovers. I am going to go insane before the next book comes out. (Note: there has been some controversy around the book, but Novik has apologized and explained that her use of the word 'dreadlocks' in one scene was actually meant to be removed in editing, so please don't let that stop you!)
