House of Earth and Blood by Sarah J. Maas

4.0

I read this amazing book in four months. I know, I can't believe it either. It's the longest period of time I've spent on a book, but I'm so glad I finished this. SJM did not fully disappoint me!

There's this one teeny tiny problem I have with this book. I was interested in the story but I wasn't really gripped into it. It was overall interesting yet it wasn't enough to hold me tightly.

Nevertheless, this book has a magnificent world-building, lovable characters, slow-burn romance, and good representation of grief and mental health. I love it, especially that ending which was very, very thrilling!

“What brings loyalty beyond death, undimming despite the years. What remains unwavering in the face of hopelessness." ... Through love, all is possible.”

House of Earth and Blood is a NA urban fantasy by Sarah J Maas. It is the first book in her latest series, Crescent City.

Bryce was once living the life with her best friend, Danika and the pack. Then that life dissolved when her closest friends were brutally murdered. Hunt Athalar is a fallen angel also known as the Umbra Mortis. In exchange for his freedom, he is offered a job, to work with Quinlan when the crimes and murder are still not solved and as they occur again. They work together, they dig in deeper things, and sure, they develop something from each other.

The first 100 pages were full of info-dumps. It took me an hour to read a chapter and I kept zoning out because of all that information but once I got past that, with patience and with a help from google, everything became so much better.

I loved the mystery and all the subplots, they were all interesting. But again, I wasn't one hundred percent immersed. Like when I finish a chapter and take a break, I will have quite a hard time getting back to the book. No matter, the storyline was great, amazing, and at the end… shocking.

The world-building =
