I really wanted to like this. Maybe I’ll try to get farther in another time, but the FMC just made me sad. It may just be that the writing style hasn’t been flushed out enough yet as a debut to not come across as juvenile, but I struggled to see any depth of independent character. Honestly it’s probably because I could not have been more beaten over the head with the knowledge that she is, in fact, the only girl at the school AND - wait for it - just possibly the most powerful of them all. I wanted her to be that and more. 

I just don’t have time to risk another Mary Sue right now.
