I started book 7 of The Expanse a while back and decided I needed a break from the series before continuing on. This novella set between books 6 and 7 was a wonderful reentry into the series. It reminded me a lot of book 4 (Cibola Burn), where the main crew helps settle a new planet.
This short story is told from the POV of a young girl on Laconia, one of the 1,300 new worlds open to humanity's expansion. It's got a really good naïve/creepy tone, and I loved the MC's interaction with the natural plant and animal life of Laconia. This story got me excited to continue the series with book 7.
