The Free People's Village by Sim Kern

Did not finish book. Stopped at 35%.
I've tried with both physical and audio copies but this book isn't working for me. Maddie is a very flat, one dimensional character so being stuck in her head for this narration made this book extremely slow for me. I think there is too much this book wants to be which makes it hard to execute it well. This book wants to be set in the future but doesn't fully reckon with parts of history that would still happen (9/11). This book wants to tell a story as an allegory but this limits the characterization and pacing signif cantly for the reader. This book wants to discuss activism and the impact capitalism has on politics but because of the other two issues, it is limited in how this valuable discussion hits home. I'm glad I tried and I think there is so much to learn from this book, but this book isn't working for me right now and I have to be okay with that. There is a difference in struggling with being uncomfortable and struggling with a narrative style the reader does not enjoy and for me, I have read enough to know it is the latter.
