I bought this to use as intended by the author - advent style with a chapter read each day. Clearly this didn't work out as well as I hoped (life with a small child will do that). That being said, I finished reading this with my son, and we both enjoyed it. 

Each chapter is followed by a Christmas craft. We did a few of the crafts and enjoyed those, too. 

[I will be reading this again with my son this December. We started it on December 2nd, got about a third of the way through by the end of the year, and finished it this year.]
