The Horse and His Boy by C.S. Lewis

5.0

I gotta say... rereading this book as an adult I have come to realize Lewis’s descriptions of the Calormen are certainly racist, and I wish he hadn’t described them this way. Keeping this aside, I absolutely love the storyline and characters of The Horse and His Boy. In fact, I think it’s my favorite book in the Chronicles of Narnia! I love Sashta and Aravis’s adventures here with Bree and Hwin! The element here of escaping an old life to start anew, all the while being chased by a great evil is just exciting to me. I found that the parts I enjoyed as a kid I also enjoyed as an adult.. such as when Aravis escapes the palace and overhears Prince Rabidash’s plans to overtake Narnia. Love this book (minus the racism) and it will always be a treasure to me.
