What I Liked
The world-building is fascinating here. The government is realistic and based off of the actual British coalition government. The Levo monitoring device monitors Slateds moods, knocking them out when they become too upset, sad, or aggressive.
Can people be rehabilitated after murdering, becoming terrorists, committing terrible crimes? Even if their memories are wiped and their personalities started again? This is what Slated is about and it's so. Interesting.
The adults in this YA dystopia are FINALLY interesting and 3-dimensional. Mum, Dad, Dr. L (I can't remember how to spell her name to save my life), the art teacher... every adult in this book is significant. This isn't a story about a little girl who somehow has the capability of saving the world without any adults around her.
What I Didn't Like
The romance between Ben and Kyla fell flat for me. It made Kyla seem very immature and unfocused so that her real concerns suddenly became less concerning. Also - it made Tori seem villainous for really no reason at all.
