Out of all of Emily Lloyd-Jones' Welsh folklore inspired stories, I liked this one the most. I read them in an interesting order. Starting with Wild Huntress first, which gave me a really good detailed backstory of the whole world. This one is definitely the middle book, and then Bone Houses be the last, in chronological time order. The epilogue of this book and how it connects to Bone Houses really solidified how amazing this book was for me.
Like all Lloyd-Jones' books, The Drowned Woods has a rich atmosphere. The dark fairytale vibes weaved their way through the story, making it an amazing reading experience. The story and the characters really come alive.
Mer and Fane were both incredible main characters. They had heartbreaking storylines, and the slight romance between them was just enough and didn't take away from the main plot. The side characters are all interesting. The best was, of course, the corgi. I love the pet sidekicks.
This one was heist based, and there were a lot of twists and turns that I didn't see coming. The ending almost really broke me, but epilogue definitely made up for it.
The only reason this isn't 5 stars was because it got a little boring in the beginning when the heist was kind of coming together. However, about halfway through the book, the plot just takes off.
I would recommend all of Emily Lloyd-Jones' books. Each one can stand alone, but reading the three books really allowed me to immerse myself in this world. She's definitely become an auto read author for me, and I will be keeping my eye out for the next one.
