Started very slow, and I wasn't very invested until 100-200 pages in. Then the plot really kicked off, and character development began to happen. I liked that there were very intense consequences for the characters' actions, but sometimes payoffs felt unearned or maybe too easy, especially when characters managed to escape perilous situations due to a random event inadvertently saving them. Still, I was attached to Sabran and Tané especially, so it was great to follow them as they grew.
