Less Than Zero by Bret Easton Ellis

4.0

This book was bleak, man. But I couldn't stop reading it. There are no chapter breaks, it is like an endless stream of consciousness (with the consciousness being optional) and it feels like you're a documentary crew following our narrator, Clay, around. Sometimes you really don't want to be a witness to these horrible people. Sometimes you're hanging on for more.

Clay just keeps going through the motions, unperturbed by all the effed up shit happening around him. I became as equally desensitised. As I kept reading I wanted more shocking things to happen. Just like all of these morally depraved characters I wanted to keep watching that dead body.

This was my first Easton Ellis and I have decided to go through all of his works in order of publication. I'm curious to see how his writing style evolves or perhaps goes downhill. Rules of Attraction up next!

In addition - the film is very poor compared to this book. A very loose adaptation.
