Parasocial had so much potential. It started off with good commentary about manufactured relationships with online creators at the expense of the people around you. I also enjoyed Casey's growth from apathy to ambition.
Unfortunately, the paranormal aspect didn't seem like it fit well in this story and, as avillain , Jennifer's decisions didn't really make sense. She could've had a decent social media presence without the deep fake alteration, especially since she seemed knowledgeable about the algorithms.
This is ultimately a coming-of-age story that could've been more impactful if it focused more on social commentary.
