Life for Sydney was going alright in terms of being with her boyfriend, Hunter of two years, a best friend who was also her roommate, and overall a decent life, that is until she found her her boyfriend and now ex-best friend were hooking up the whole time behind her back. Oh and did I mention Sydney found this out on her birthday? Talk about the unexpected surprise. Suddenly, Sydney found herself looking for a place to stay, a job, and luckily her neighbor and mysterious guitar player, Ridge offered her to stay at his apartment. Sydney and Ridge found themselves becoming roommates and working together on music that Ridge needed help with. This story had betrayal, heartbreak, musically talented individuals, and a unique bond forming between Sydney and Ridge.

For someone only being twenty two years ago, it seemed like Sydney had a good grasp on her life compared to when I was her age. Although I can’t say I could understand the exact feeling of finding out my boyfriend was cheating on me with my best friend, ouch. Sydney definitely got a rude wake up call to what was really going on behind closed doors, but at least she found out instead of living in blissful ignorance. Meanwhile, Ridge, her apartment neighbor was aware of what Hunter and Tori were up to behind Sydney’s back and unfortunately had to be the one to break the news to her. Despite telling the truth, I felt kind of bad for Ridge because it put him in a tough spot with Sydney, but hey, better to have been told right? Anyways, aside from the obvious betrayal, once Sydney and Ridge got to know more about each other, I found them interesting and liked them.

Ridge, was a deaf character so he mainly communicated with Sydney via text message, or writing to her. I was also like Sydney that initially, I didn’t realize Ridge was deaf, but it made sense since they had never openly spoken to each other. Sydney didn’t treat Ridge any differently after finding out about him being deaf, just kept acting the same around him as usual. Ridge seemed like a thoughtful, sweet, kind guy, and him offering to help Sydney was nice of him, especially since they didn’t know each other that well. The connection between Sydney and Ridge started to become clear that the way they were around each other was a lot meaningful than they realized. Whenever Sydney and Ridge spent time together from creating music together to simply having conversations, I enjoyed reading bits and pieces of their lives that they normally kept to themselves. I thought Sydney and Ridge had great chemistry and I enjoyed the build up between them from strangers to friends to lovers.

I really liked the musical aspect to the story. Seeing how Sydney and Ridge were able to feed off each other’s creative energy and create meaningful lyrics to music made their connection stronger, and reveal just how much they were falling for one another. Even before Sydney or Ridge admitted they were attracted to each other, just by reading the lyrics they came up with and the way they approached their sessions working together highlighted the strong effect they had on one another. The moments when Sydney and Ridge were working on music were some of my favorites due to the intimacy they shared and (sigh) were low key kind of romantic to me.

Once again, the way Colleen tied the meaning of the title into the story was eye opening. The true meaning behind, “maybe someday” was impactful in a way that left me in awe and heartbreak. When I read the few parts that made a call back to the title, I not only had my “Aha!” moment, but realized that with Sydney and Ridge, and even Maggie, there was a different meaning to their “maybe someday”. Seeing how Colleen highlighted that in the storyline made me sad for the characters, but also reflect on the characters themselves.

This story was absolutely beautiful, heartfelt and heartbreaking, but in the best way possible. There was that bit of angst, emotional tugs to my heart, and I absolutely fell in love with Sydney and Ridge. Mixed in with their appreciation of music and it playing a significant role in their relationship was special, and how it played a role towards the end made my heart happy. A well rounded story that hit the spot for me, and I can honestly say I will be reading this again. Colleen did a phenomenal job with this story and I can’t get over how much I fell in love with this book!
