Morning Star by Pierce Brown

adventurous dark medium-paced
  • Plot- or character-driven? A mix
  • Strong character development? Yes

5.0

It's hard to maintain the same level across different books, but Brown has managed it three times in a row. The length of “Morning Star” gives the story room to pause and focus on dialogue and politics.

That way, when the action moments and unexpected twists I didn't see coming came, I felt the adrenaline rush and, at times, my heart broke. As much as I tried to predict the story, I wasn't even close and I liked that it constantly surprised us with meaning, without pulling it out of the hat to force a reaction.

As I read the third one, I thought about taking a long break to continue the saga. After that ending, I have to seriously reconsider my decision. I need to know what happens, I need to stay in that solar system, I need to continue being a part of it.
