Blood Harvest by Sharon Bolton

It's not that this was awful but it was just so done. I've read everything in this book before, and nothing was a shock, or even very interesting, aside from the surprisingly depressing ending. There was some promising Wicker Man-esque rural ritual horror but it didn't go anywhere or even have any real relevance to the plot. I also couldn't find it in me to care much about any of the characters, or believe in their motivations or thought processes. A psychiatrist worrying about being struck off for briefly considering a relationship with someone vaguely adjacent to a patient is ludicrous anyway but especially when she's already as crazily over-involved with the families she works with as Evi is. I felt like a lot of what Bolton did with the characters was an attempt at character building but it felt like a lot of loose ends - things like Gillian's potential abuse, or what it was that solidified Harry's faith.
Probably the most interesting part of this book for me was the scene with the forensic pathologist and honestly that just made me wish I was reading a Temperance Brennan book instead.
